Minister of Science welcomed the Serbian AI talents

Academician Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, Mr Bela Balint, welcomed the delegation in the building of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, stressing that the Ministry strives to support all young people who manifest their knowledge and ambitions in the fields of science and innovation: “We all wish you good luck and success in the competition, but be aware that medals are not the most important thing either. The very fact that you represent Serbia means that you will forever remain in the nation’s memory, and that is something to be proud of”. During the meeting and conversation with the Minister, the members of the national team, Aleksa Bolić, Andrej Tetkić, Filip Kilibarda and Veljko Galović, and their mentors Ivan Radivojević and Dr. Vladimir Milanović presented the concept of the competition: “The competition itself consists of two parts. Our national team members will first go through the individual part of the competition, which is mostly scientific, and then the team part awaits them, which is also practical. This concept is not foreign to them because they have achieved remarkable results in competitions in the field of informatics before” said Dr. Milovanović. “It is important for us to know that our country stands behind us. It is a great honor when we display the flag of our country at a world competition,” said Dr. Milovanović.

State Secretary Dr. Marija Gnjatović, emphasized the importance of supporting young people and the help that the Ministry can provide them. “With the support of young talented people from the world of science, we are sending a message that we follow world trends and adapt our education to new development trends. In this way, we encourage other young people and their mentors and professors to deal with AI, while the Ministry is actively considering ways to strategically approach the development of an educational program in this area,” she explained. “What is important is that these young people answered that they want to continue dealing with AI and that they would like to have a scientific career, and what made us all particularly happy was that they all said they wanted to stay in Serbia. Maybe this Olympiad is the way to they get opportunities for international training, but their desire is to continue their career path here and in that way help this country to progress and develop a knowledge-based economy”.

AI Association President, Dalibor Marinović, pointed out that the national team is satisfied with the success so far and the road to Beijing that they have won. “In Beijing, we will be with the best high school students in the field of artificial intelligence from all over the world, to see what they know and where Serbia is in relation to them. The results are uncertain, but what you can certainly expect is that these guys will give it their all. For them, this is a huge experience that will be an incentive for their future careers”.
